Most people’s lives are starting to slow down by the time they become grandparents, but Hartz’s life seems to be just beginning. Her life changed forever when she was diagnosed with pre-Type 2 diabetes. But she now admits her diet wasn’t perfect back then.
She revealed that she had once devoured half a cheesecake for breakfast, and eaten an entire packet of biscuits in one go. And the ingredient that she came to realize was the problem? Sugar, found in so many foods, became the thing that had to go.
Fear took hold of Hartz and she realized that the only way to stay healthy was to restrict the food she loved. So, despite having a sweet tooth, fizzy soda, chocolate and biscuits immediately lost their appeal. With her focus very much on saving her own health, she ditched all processed sugar from her diet.
