18. 30,000 bees
If your walls started humming, your first thought might be to check the pipes. Not so for one New Jersey homeowner, who discovered in 2017 that their wall was actually full of particularly aggressive bees. Indeed, the hive was enormous, containing tens of thousands of bees and a whopping 40 pounds of honey. Fortunately, a local beekeeper managed to get them out.
17. All the bats
While bees are fairly easily removed from walls, bats are a different story altogether. Just ask Katrina Arcand and Matthew Dewan, who bought a farmhouse in 2015 – only to find that the space behind the chimney was full of bats. Unfortunately for the couple, bats will do all they can to return to their home roost, making them virtually impossible to get rid of.
16. A safe full of cash and booze
Not all disturbing house finds are bad news for the homeowners. Indeed, one couple’s luck came in when they began renovating their kitchen in 2015 and found a safe built into the floor. They’d even found the combo when they first moved in, so they quickly cracked it open. And inside, they found a vintage bottle of bourbon, a book and more than $50,000 in cash.
