Fans of The Tonight Show were probably disappointed on November 3, 2017, as no new episode was being taped that night. You see, host Jimmy Fallon had canceled the recording citing a “private Fallon family matter.” And, as that statement implied, it was something pretty serious. When he returned to the show after a week away, though, he explained what had happened. And his revelation was both touching and sad.

Jimmy Fallon appears to be 100 percent a family man. And he’s spoken often about how great his childhood was and how encouraging his parents were. The comedian grew up in New York with a close-knit family of parents and grandparents by his side. They were protective, and apparently sometimes even overprotective, but very loving nonetheless.

Moreover, Fallon might have never become a comedian, or made it onto Saturday Night Live, without the help of his family. You see, his parents loved his celebrity impressions and encouraged him to do more. “I remember I was two years old, and my mom said, ‘Jimmy, do James Cagney.’ I said, ‘You dirty rat,’ and everyone laughed,” he told Vanity Fair in December 2012.
