In the lyrics of her track “Sober,” which hit the charts back in June, Demi Lovato confessed that she had relapsed. Then, just a month after the song’s release, Lovato was rushed to the hospital after overdosing on medication. Now, her mom Dianna De La Garza has spoken out for the first time to reveal how the singer is doing.

Lovato was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on August 20, 1992. She grew up in Dallas, Texas, and started acting as a child in 2002 with a role on Barney & Friends. After a handful of smaller parts, she got her big break when auditioning for two Disney Channel roles in 2007.

The auditions resulted in the now 26-year-old landing the lead in both the 2008 movie Camp Rock and the sitcom Sonny with a Chance. The latter ran from 2009 to 2011, during which time Lovato also made and released music. She then announced that she was leaving the television series and would be taking a break from acting.
