18. Anjelica Huston suffered for her art

Actress Angelica Huston went to some pretty extraordinary lengths in order to perfect Morticia’s penetrating gaze. She actually agreed to having her eyes shaped and pulled into position using string and spirit gum. And as if that weren’t bad enough, she also had to wear a metal corset, get gauze eye lifts, have her neck tucked, and perform in ridiculously impractical fake nails. Ouch.

17. Wednesday’s name has a meaning

Wednesday Addams – first played by Lisa Loring in the TV show and then by Christina Ricci in the movies – gets her name from the nursery rhyme line, “Wednesday’s child is full of woe.” Lots of woe, as it turned out. 16. It wasn’t easy being Itt

John Salapatek played Cousin Itt in the movies, and he wore a rather uncomfortable wig that tipped the scales at 35 pounds. That’s pretty heavy, especially considering the man underneath all that hair claimed to only weigh 100 pounds at the time. And if that weren’t enough, the weighty wig proved to be something of a fire hazard: when a light bulb burst all that hair nearly went up in smoke with Salapatek trapped inside, and an extra only just managed to yank him to safety in the nick of time.
