What’s more, the actor’s family even upped sticks entirely to California so that the karate champ could get his start in Hollywood. And the move seemed to pay off, as Lautner subsequently scooped small parts in The Bernie Mac Show and My Wife and Kids. He even won his first leading film role in 2005’s The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D. But it would be a few more years before the rising star truly hit the big time…

Indeed, one of Lautner’s most important movie roles to date is his portrayal of Jacob Black in the 2008-released Twilight. That part also went on to make him a teen pin-up across the globe. And the film’s huge success – it has grossed nearly $394 million worldwide – made the actor a household name.

Furthermore, although Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s characters were the undoubted focus of Twilight, Lautner would receive his own share of the limelight in the movie’s follow-up. That’s because the actor’s character morphed from a supporting player to a major role in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. And it was arguably after the release of this film that Lautner-mania hit fever pitch.
