18. Linus Roache (Michael Cutter)

Linus Roache is best known to Law & Order fans as the hardball assistant district attorney Michael Cutter, filling the chair of show mainstay Jack McCoy in 2008. And he remained on the show until its series finale, before going on to take up a minor part in British soap Coronation Street. He’s also since featured in the stellar historical drama Vikings and taken up a lead role in ABC period drama Titanic.

17. Angie Harmon (Abbie Carmichael)

It’s not easy to redefine yourself on two different shows, but Angie Harmon did just that. Indeed, after her lengthy run on Law & Order as the strict conservative Abbie Carmichael, she went on to star in – and pick up awards for – the crime drama Rizzoli & Isles. Like a fine wine, in fact, she just gets better with age.

16. Milena Govich (Nina Cassady)

Milena Govich impressed so much in the short-lived drama Conviction that executive producer of Law & Order Dick Wolfe poached her for the show the very next day. And she lived up to the hype in her role as detective Nina Cassady, before finally being replaced by Jeremy Sisto in 2006. She’s since gone on to feature in shows like Finding Carter and Make It Or Break It as well as popping up in movies like Bad Behavior, Sordid Things and A Novel Romance.
