With all the buzz around the recent Wonder Woman movie, it’s easy to forget that Gal Gadot is far from the first actress to play the character. Prior to the film, the most successful live-action iteration was the TV show, which ran from 1975 to 1979 and starred Lynda Carter. However, while Carter certainly made a name for herself working on the series, her life out of the golden bracelets has been just as interesting.

20. She took Wonder Woman to the U.N.

Last year, while shooting for the new film was wrapping up, Carter, new Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and director Patty Jenkins went to the U.N. to honor Wonder Woman’s selection as an official U.N. Ambassador. In the end the decision was overturned, however, in part because she’s a fictional character. Go figure.

19. She actually plays two super-humans in the DC world

Seemingly not content with playing only one DC character, Carter was also recently cast as President Olivia Marsdin in The CW’s Supergirl TV show. It gets even better, because far from being a token role for a famous face, Carter’s character is a Durlan, a shapeshifting race of aliens that first appeared in Action Comics back in 1961.
