20. Stalinist Skyscraper Selfie

Vertigo sufferers, look away now! Known as the “Russian Spider-Man,” Kirill Oreshkin is famous for his fearless mastery of high places. Case in point right here. With the daredevil poised at the top of Moscow’s Red Gate Building – a Stalinist architectural wonder spanning 24 floors – this relaxed and confident selfie was snapped 436 feet up in the air. Terrifyingly, no safety equipment was used.

19. Grizzly Bear Selfie

Wildlife photographer Paul Souders has every reason to look nervous: the jaws of a grizzly bear are powerful enough to shatter a bowling ball. Fortunately, this burly beast, snapped in Katmai National Park in Alaska, seems more interested in a nearby salmon spawning site than the fresh human meat posing in front of him; for now, at least.
