Californian teenager Narbeh Babakhani has a special place in his heart for the Kardashians. The family provided him with a focus when going through a difficult time. Then, when his high school prom rolled around, the student reached out to someone special to accompany him. And he ended up with a very high-profile date.

Narbeh lives in Glendale, California, a suburb of Los Angeles to the east of Hollywood. He had personal problems throughout high school, but found a way to take his mind off them. You see, at the age of 14, he started a fan page on Instagram, @narbehkardash, dedicated to the Kardashians.

Of course, the Kardashians are a collective who need little introduction. But for anyone that doesn’t know who they are, the family are the stars of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, a reality T.V. show that has aired since 2007. It follows the lives of the Kardashian-Jenner clan through their personal and professional ups and downs.

Now, at some point, Narbeh got hooked on the Kardashians and their adventures. In a video to his YouTube channel in November 2019, the teenager addressed what appealed to him about the family. As he put it, “I love their drive, and I love their simplicity of being a family.”

“There’s no beating around the bush [with the Kardashians],” Narbeh continued. “I just really connected to them.” And so, in honor of his favorite T.V. family, he started an Instagram account dedicated to them. It was no big deal to him. He was just a regular teenager providing followers with updates and images of his passion.

Being a regular teenager, Narbeh attended the local Hoover High School in Glendale. However, as already mentioned, things weren’t always easy for the Kardashian superfan as a teen, and we’ll talk more about that later. But for him, having a passion like the reality T.V. family presented a much needed distraction from his troubles.

You see, Narbeh’s Instagram page got some attention from an unexpected place. At the time, the account was all about the Kardashians. The teenager never posted selfies or anything personal; it was all about his support for the famous clan. But then a member of the celebrity family took an interest in what his activities.

Khloé Kardashian had, in fact, caught on to Narbeh’s fan page. And, not only that, she also came across the superfan on Twitter. So the pair started interacting with each other on social media. And it was at this point that the teenager figured, why not reveal himself as the Instagram account’s owner?

Narbeh’s self-revelation then had further consequences. For instance, he attended a personal appearance Khloé made at a Good American event. Now, Good American is a clothing brand founded by the reality T.V. star. She identified a gap in the denim market, and started a label producing jeans for curvy women.

And so, when Khloé made a public appearance to promote her jeans brand, Narbeh went along to see what was up. Then, as it happened, the Good American owner identified her teenage fan in the crowd. As he explained, “She instantly knew who I was because [she recognized my face] from my Twitter [profile].”

What’s more, Khloé’s mom, Kris Jenner, was also at the event. So Narbeh chatted to mother and daughter for a while and got a sense of what the stars were like in real life. Furthermore, the teenager felt he bonded with Khloé in particular, perhaps because of their earlier connection on Twitter.

It appears than Narbeh picked Khloé out as his favorite Kardashian early in his fandom. In fact, his admiration for the entrepreneur helped him overcome some of his personal problems. And so, as his prom approached in June 2019, the teenager’s insecurities didn’t hold him back from wanting to attend.

Not only did Narbeh wish to attend prom, but he was also determined to have a date on his arm when he arrived. At times like these, it’s pretty typical to ask a crush to be your date. However, the event is a pretty big deal these days, and some seniors have set their sights much higher.

For instance, in 2007 pop superstar Rihanna went to prom as the date of high school student called Richard. He was selected from a group of teenagers who didn’t have partners for the big night. And although the singer chose the date herself, the whole thing was for the MTV show, Once Upon A Prom.

Rihanna, it seems, never went to prom herself. And the same was true for musician Taylor Swift. A conflicting tour schedule when hers took place meant that she couldn’t attend. So, in 2008, Taylor also appeared on Once Upon A Prom. She surprised Whit Wright, by selecting him from 50 eligible dates at Alabama’s Hillcrest High School.

However, those prom dates were carefully selected and the scenario was orchestrated for a T.V. show. Surely such celebrity encounters don’t happen in real life? Believe it or not, there have been situations in which stars from pop culture have actually shown up at high school proms in the real world. And they weren’t even invited…

For instance, Katy Perry came across a high school event while staying at Melbourne’s Grand Hyatt in Australia in 2010. She then gatecrashed the party, which was held at the same hotel, singing Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” and snapping selfies with the high school students for 15 minutes. The pop star declared on Twitter, “I totes just crashed a prom!”

Similarly, teen heart-throb Justin Bieber showed up uninvited to the prom of Chatsworth High School seniors in California in 2015. According to reports at the time, the pop sensation was recording in the area when he spotted the party nearby. Judging by Instagram and Vine videos, everyone had a great time, with the star stating on Twitter, “Always wanted to go to prom. Thanks for having me. #promcrasher”

With stars being so accessible via social media today, they surely get inundated with prom date requests every year. With that in mind, what are the chances of someone’s celebrity crush even seeing the invitation? Narbeh, however, had an advantage when it came to enticing his desired prom date.

You see, Narbeh knew exactly who he wanted to take to prom. It was someone who had come to mean a lot to him throughout his struggles. And so, since they shared a social media bond, the teenager slid into Khloé Kardashian’s DMs. Did he even stand a chance with his potential celebrity date?

Perhaps it was a long shot. After all, the Kardashians are very busy people, what with their T.V. show, businesses and public engagements. But, Narbeh thought, it’s definitely worth asking. And, after Khloé consulted her schedule, it transpired that she was able to work something out. The star actually accepted the superfan’s prom invitation.

What’s more, Khloé had also never been to a prom before, so it was a special night for her as well. And, as photos and video footage suggest, the reality star took the date seriously. That’s to say she handled the night out with her superfan almost as if it were her own prom.

Indeed, Narbeh and Khloé’s date then became part of a November 2019 episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. And, unsure of what she should expect, the reality T.V. star began thinking out loud about the upcoming occasion. For starters, the famous sibling opened up about why she’d accepted her superfan’s invitation.

As Khloé revealed to the show’s producers, “I’ve never been to prom before, but I have always wondered what prom is like. And, over the years, I’ve developed a relationship with Narbeh. […] Narbeh has been a Kardashian supporter forever and ever.” And, it appears that the teenager wasn’t the only one of the pair who felt a certain bond.

“And [Narbeh is] Armenian, so we share that connection,” Khloé further explained. Indeed, the entrepreneur herself is of Armenian descent through her father, the attorney Robert Kardashian. If nothing else, it might give the pair something to talk about on the night. She was, nevertheless, sketchy about what to expect from prom.

As a result, Khloé had some concerns about her date with Narbeh. So, she turned to her mom for some sage advice. “So what do I do?” she asked Kris. “I have no idea what happens at prom. Do I get a limo?” Her mother, however, appeared shocked that her daughter even asked the question.

“You have to get a limo!” Kris replied. “It’s prom.” And, despite Khloé’s lack of experience of the event, she was aware of what a big deal it had become over the years. She replied, “I feel like people literally go in a helicopter these days.” Even so, the businesswoman kept proceedings relatively muted.

On the night, then, Khloé arrived in a stretch Hummer to pick up her date. As Narbeh climbed into the limo, the pair exchanged greetings and commented how great they both looked. Then, as the driver set off, the teenager opened up in front of the cameras. He explained how grateful he was to the Kardashian that she gave up her time for him.

Narbeh told Khloé, “I honestly want to thank you. You know, I dealt with a lot in high school. I had really bad anxiety and depression. My body image issues were through the roof and I was only 16.” And, it appears, that was a situation the businesswoman could relate to and sympathize with.

On the prom episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Khloé described her own experiences as a teenager. She said, “I know high school can be a really difficult time […] For me it wasn’t the most enjoyable. It was frustrating and I also felt like what the girls focussed on at school was just not my priority. We were all just very different people.”

So, with that understanding of how tough growing up can be, Khloé simply wanted to brighten someone’s day. As she further explained, “With all that being said, I want to, hopefully, make someone else’s high school experience, even if it’s just for a day, that much easier and that much more enjoyable and memorable.”

During the limo ride, Narbeh also explained to Khloé why he invited her to prom. He said, “You really helped me, and I was just like, ‘She’s helped me through high school, so she’s like a symbol of strength.’ I was like, ‘I want to take my symbol of strength to prom so we can be strong together!’”

The pair’s first stop, however, was for Khloé to meet Narbeh’s family. She met her superfan’s brother, mom and dad, as well as his grandmother, who the T.V. star told she was beautiful. The entrepreneur also thanked the teenager’s mom for sharing her son for the evening. Then, the obligatory prom traditions began.

As is typical for prom, Khloé and Narbeh exchanged matching corsage and boutonniere. Struggling with the pins to attach her date’s flower, the businesswoman joked, “If I stab you, don’t scream.” Then, before they departed, hand in hand, for the party, they posed for “couples” photos on the lawn. The whole family even joined in.

Khloé wore a full length, long-sleeved, form-fitting black dress with cutouts across the décolletage and back. She had her long blonde hair pulled tight into a pony tail. The star’s high heels flashed their red soles with every stride, and she boasted that she was still able to walk on grass. To this, Narbeh, wearing a slick black suit and white shirt, joked, “And people say you have no talent.”

On the ride to the party, however, Khloé needed to make a detour. As she explained during the prom episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, “I don’t know what to expect. I really don’t even know where I’m going. So I just have to have something to take the edge off, I guess.”

Before the couple’s arrival at the party, Khloé stopped for a bottle of champagne. Now, of course, being a high school prom, there was no alcohol allowed at the event. However, the T.V. star was 34, and therefore decided on a little dutch courage. And although the reality star held an “open bar” sign in the couple’s photobooth shots, Narbeh stressed it was a joke.

The pair posed cheek-to-cheek in the photobooth, pouting for the camera. The other students, however, had no idea the T.V. star was due at their party. One young man declared, “Narbeh, you’re a god,” as the superfan led his date through the room of visibly-excited teenagers.

However, after a little dancing, Khloé felt she had to excuse herself. Her earlier champagne, it appears, had gone to her head. As she explained on the show, “I have a great memory of what prom is… But things were just getting a little fuzzy, so I got to go.” Nevertheless, a great time was had.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Narbeh shared photos of his experience with his 336,000 Instagram followers. He said, “Wow. Sharing my prom with @khloekardashian was an over-the-moon experience.” The reality star then echoed the sentiment. She said, “My very first prom and I went with THE BEST date ever.” Furthermore, the pair stayed in contact, and the superfan posted a selfie with all three Kardashian sisters in February 2020. He wrote, “What’s better than Armenian food? Armenian food and the Kardashians.
