Thrift stores can be a bit hit and miss, yet occasionally you stumble across a total gem. We’re not talking financial bargains, though, but rather objects that are just so ridiculously hilarious that they could only be found in second-hand stores. From crazy paintings and weird furniture to cool clothing and awesome ornaments, these items were found by some extremely lucky people.
20. This Pluto T-shirt
In these more sensitive times, there’s no real place for “your mom” jokes – unless, that is, they’re as rip-roaringly funny as this. And as we imagine that it was pretty hard for Pluto to lose its classification as a planet, it’s no wonder that this gag manages to defy the test of time so well.
19. These musical dragons
We’re not sure what was going through the mind of whoever dreamt these up, but we want to experience it. After all, it must have taken something truly special – or powerful – to realize these badass musical dragons. Hopefully, then, whoever buys these unique creations will give them the love that they so clearly deserve.
18. This dino chair
At least, we assume that it’s a dinosaur, because any other explanation would be even more terrifying than it already is. And while this item may look like the kind of thing that would fit into a kid’s bedroom, we can’t imagine that any child would be brave enough to actually sit in it.
17. This cob seahorse
What do you get when you cross a seahorse with corn on the cob? The stuff of nightmares, if this is anything to go by. The poor creature looks like it’s in a world of eternal suffering – presumably as the victim of some kind of corn-hating witch’s curse.
16. This piggy bank
Okay, so a piggy bank in the guise of Miss Piggy seems like a natural fit. But why on earth put the coin slot there? And why dress her up like that, too? Really, we’re not surprised that somebody gave this away; as thrift store finds go, though, it’s absolutely hilarious.
15. This Lionel Richie tee
You don’t need us to tell you that this mash-up of Where’s Waldo? and Lionel Richie’s famous lyric is a stroke of absolute genius. All you need to know is that someone decided it worked well enough to print on a T-shirt and that somehow that T-shirt ended up in a thrift store. But who would ever give this away?
14. This framed picture
It’s an obvious gag, sure, but this painting is also strange on so many levels that we just don’t know where to begin. Why is the cat posing in front of a professional studio backdrop? Who decided that this would be worth printing and framing? And was this really hanging on someone’s wall?
13. This keyring
We’re not sure if this particular piece of merch is a spoiler for Toy Story 4 or just the result of one particularly enthusiastic and artistic fan. Either way, it looks like Woody really does have a friend in Buzz. Or, we should say, a little more than a friend.
12. This cat chair
Okay, this ostentatious piece of furniture probably wouldn’t fly in the home of anyone other than a crazy cat person. And even then, we probably wouldn’t recommend it – after all, there’s a good chance that they’d end up accidentally sitting on their own camouflaged cats way too often. But we still love it for its sheer ridiculousness.
11. This monkey painting
Supposedly, this majestic piece of art depicts a primate and its offspring. And while the parent is clear enough, that definitely doesn’t look like a baby monkey. No, all we’re seeing is the stoic, determined face of actor Nicolas Cage. To be fair, he’s had weirder roles.
10. This framed Yoda
Look, we get it. Yoda was certainly full of wisdom in The Empire Strikes Back. “Do or do not, there is no try” and “Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter” remain sound pieces of advice, too. But does that really make him worth painting and framing? Yep, of course it does.
9. These tube men
These aren’t just any tube men, of course, as Family Guy fans will know; they’re in fact wacky, waving, inflatable, arm-flailing tube men. And while an army of them may sound hilarious, the reality is a lot creepier. Just look at those empty smiles set against the bleak, gray sky.
8. This Batman painting
Batman and Robin have really let themselves go, it seems. We can’t imagine that they’ll be doing much in the way of crime-fighting in this state, either. The painting is absolutely hilarious, though. And given that it was bought at Goodwill for a mere $6, it’s also the find of a lifetime.
7. This rock
Yes, that’s right: Goodwill was charging a dollar for a rock. To be fair, though, it’s a pretty nice rock. Maybe whoever found it thought that it was good enough to fetch a quick buck? Either that, or the thrift store has really hit rock bottom when it comes to new ideas.
6. This stuffed squirrel
This squirrel looks majorly ticked off, and we have to say that we can’t blame it. After all, it wasn’t even allowed the dignity of resting in peace. Instead, it was stuffed, posed and placed in a tiny rowing boat – a fate it must now suffer for all eternity.
5. This satirical jacket
In a world where seemingly everyone who’s ever gone on a short walk wears North Face jackets, it can be difficult to stand out. Unless, that is, you’re lucky enough to find a South Butt jacket. Yes, this parody coat is both hilarious and subtle, so you can wear it proudly without looking too ostentatious.
4. This dress
Back in 2015, this dress split the internet in half by appearing either as black and blue or white and gold. And, apparently, someone thought it would be a good idea to bamboozle people even further by stitching the two color schemes together. With the phenomenon quickly fading, though, it’s no wonder that this particular gown ended up in a thrift store…
3. This Mona Lisa
Let’s be honest: if there’s one way to improve literally anything in life, it’s by adding dogs to it. And that’s true even where the Mona Lisa is concerned. After all, if Leonardo da Vinci had just added a few pups to his painting, it might have been even more famous. Right?
2. This T-shirt
We can only surmise that whoever gave this shirt away was not a fan of Stranger Things. After all, anyone who’s ever watched the show would surely love to have this amazing depiction of Eleven as some kind of waffle-loving deity. Whoever bought it, then, must have done so for a steal.
1. This cat portrait
While this painting is absolutely balls-to-the-wall amazing, it’s even funnier if you imagine a cat actually posing for it in full costume, as the artist will surely have needed some kind of reference… Yeah, we’re almost as keen to know the back story behind this sublime work of art as we are to possess it for ourselves.
