Everyone Remembers Honey Boo Boo’s Mama June – But She’s Completely Unrecognizable These Days

Famed for her family’s reality shows on TLC, Mama June has never been afraid to go under the knife. The tabloid regular has undergone numerous plastic surgery procedures since her unlikely rise to fame. But it was in 2020 that the mother of Honey Boo Boo revealed her most dramatic transformation yet.

It was Mama June’s most expensive transformation yet, too. The 41-year-old Georgia native spent a whopping $31,000 on just one particular procedure at a Beverly Hills clinic. Another op cost her a similarly bank-breaking amount, $20,000. While her cheapest course of plastic surgery still carried a pretty hefty price tag at $15,000.

Yet Mama June’s costliest procedure wasn’t at the exclusive plastic surgery clinic. That’s right: the From Not to Hot star forked out an incredible $40,000 for some significant self-care at a cosmetic dentist. And Geno Doak, Mama June’s long-term boyfriend, treated himself to several of the same types of surgery, too.

In a chat with British newspaper The Sun, Mama June revealed just how pleased she was with how all the work had turned out. “I feel like a new woman,” the reality star said. And the remarkable before-and-after photos that accompanied the interview left many astonished readers in total agreement.

Mama June also told the tabloid that the various cosmetic procedures have improved her mental well-being as much as her physical health. “This past year has been a real struggle for Geno and I,” the former TLC regular explained. “We’ve had so many ups and downs with our troubles and then COVID-19.”

So how did Mama June — whose real name is June Shannon — become such a famous figure? Well, her youngest daughter played a big part. Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson stole the show when she appeared on child beauty pageant reality series Toddlers and Tiaras. As a result, the youngster was given her very own TLC show.

Here Comes Honey Boo Boo proved to be just as big a hit. And not only did the show make its leading little lady a star, it also turned several members of her family into household names. This included her sisters Anna, Jessica and Lauryn, also known as Chickadee, Chubbs and Pumpkin, respectively, and, of course, her mom.

Mama June was with Mike ‘Sugar Bear’ Thompson at the time of the show’s 2012 premiere. The pair had already been together for eight years by this point and shortly after, they became husband and wife. But both their marriage and their daughter’s reality show was wrecked by allegations that emerged in 2014.

TLC decided to take Here Comes Honey Boo Boo off the air following reports of an affair between Mama June and a convicted child molester. Online tabloid TMZ claimed that the reality star had started seeing Mark McDaniel in secret following his release from prison. The convict had spent 10 years in jail after being found guilty of a sex offense against a minor.

Mama June insisted that the rumors weren’t true in a video that she posted online in October 2014. “The statement of me dating a sex offender is totally untrue,” she said in the video. “I would not ever, ever, ever, ever put my kids in danger. I love my kids too much. That is my past. I have not seen that person in 10 years.” Yet the damage had already been done.

In a subsequent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Mama June disclosed the fact that Chubbs and Pumpkin’s father, Michael Anthony Ford, was also a registered sex offender. Honey Boo Boo and Chickadee’s pops, Sugar Bear and David Dunn, are no strangers to the inside of a prison cell, too. And Mama June has had several run-ins with the police herself.

Mama June got into trouble with the law in 2008 when she was arrested for both contempt of court and theft. Oldest daughter Anna, aka Chickadee, would later accuse her mom of stealing from her savings account, too. But the reality star’s most serious brush with the cops came in 2019.

This was when police discovered crack cocaine in Mama June’s car at a Macon County gas station. The cops had been called to the scene after reports that June’s boyfriend Geno had been threatening her. In the end, both parties got into trouble and were subsequently charged with drug possession.

By this point, Mama June was not only a mother of four, but a grandmother of two as well. Anna first became a mom herself at the age of 18 with the birth of Kaitlyn. A year after walking down the aisle with Michael Cardwell in 2014, the reality star welcomed another daughter into the world, Kylee.

Sadly, Mama June’s relationship with her own four children has completely deteriorated in recent years. In fact, Honey Boo Boo is now under the legal guardianship of her older sister Pumpkin, aka Lauryn, and her husband Josh in Florida. Her mother’s substance abuse issues are reportedly to blame.

Thankfully, Mama June is now making efforts to get clean and get her life back on track. In 2020 she headed to a rehab facility in Florida with her boyfriend Geno for a 30-day program. The pair told the cameras documenting their stay that their cocaine habits once cost them a mighty $150,000 over the course of just six months!

Mama June also revealed just how desperate their living situation had recently become. On her show Family Crisis, rebranded from From Not to Hot, she said, “It has been kind of f***ed up. It got to the point where being able to afford a hotel and being able to live just was not possible. So then we started sleeping in the Suburban.”

In an interview with The Sun, Mama June’s therapist Dr. Ish Major explained that his client needed to sink to rock bottom before seeking assistance. He said, “She’s thinking, ‘I’m running out of money, I’m selling my things, I have legal trouble, maybe it is time to get help.’ Finally she got to the part where she was ready to take action.”

Dr. Ish also revealed some encouraging news about Mama June’s family situation. According to the therapist, the troubled mom is now talking with her previously estranged four daughters. And perhaps to prove even further how she’s a changed woman, Mama June has undergone a radical physical transformation, too.

Mama June had previously gone under the knife in 2017 for a number of extreme surgeries costing in the region of $75,000. This included breast augmentation, skin removal and a gastric band operation. June told People magazine that the latter procedure was by far and away the most painful.

Dismissing criticisms that her weight loss methods were a form of cheating, June said, “It’s not like I’m Miss Plastic. I don’t consider a tummy tuck or face skin removal ‘plastic surgery.’ I believe it’s something that makes you feel better than you did with the skin hanging. I can promise you I’m never going back to my old size. I’m happy where I’m at.”

But it took a while for Mama June to get accustomed to her gastric band. On From Not to Hot she admitted she suffered painful vomiting sessions after continuing to binge on her favorite fatty foods. She added, “That’s not a thing that I recommend to somebody. You realize what you can and can’t do, and when you do it that one time, you don’t do it again.”

Thankfully, Mama June eventually learned how to manage her diet. Over the next year she ended up losing a remarkable 300 pounds. She credited her new habit of sleeping in until 1pm and therefore skipping breakfast for her new slender figure. But by the time that From Not to Hot’s second series hit screens, Mama June was once again struggling to resist temptation.

Mama June subsequently adopted the low-carb, high-protein keto diet. And she was keen to sing its praises in an online interview with BUILD Series in 2018. She said, “It’s like, cheese, eggs, protein, meat. And you honestly lose weight with that. That’s what I’ve been going back to, and I’ve started losing a couple pounds. But it actually, really works.”

After revealing that giving up pasta and bread was relatively easy, Mama June continued, “I’m not here to tell people how to diet, because everyone’s different. But I know what has worked for me. I think people just don’t need to give up, and I think that’s what happens with a lot of diets nowadays. I’ve done that.”

But it doesn’t seem as though the keto diet worked out for Mama June in the long run. In 2020 Honey Boo Boo’s mom went under the knife for several more procedures. This included a $15,000 neck and chin liposuction where surgeons managed to remove a whole pound of fat.

A doctor named Samuel Kashani also performed gastric sleeve surgery worth $31,000 on Mama June at a Beverly Hills clinic. Another surgeon, Michael K. Obeng, was tasked with removing lipoma from the star’s head and neck at a cost of $20,000. And having damaged her teeth with her crack addiction, June also decided to treat herself to a full set of veneers — costing $40,000.

This meant that Mama June spent nearly $150,000 on her transformation in pretty much one fell swoop. Luckily, she was overjoyed with the results. The star told The Sun, “It feels good to get rid of my triple chin and to have my teeth fixed and looking beautimous. I feel like a new woman.”

Mama June’s plastic surgery bill could have cost even more. The Family Crisis star had planned to add a tummy tuck to her extensive list of procedures. But after doctors discovered that the fat in question was much deeper and solid than they anticipated, she had to give it a miss.

Not wanting to feel left out, June’s partner Geno also went under the knife at the same time. He chose three of the same procedures, the gastric sleeve operation, the veneer surgery and the lipoma removal, at a combined cost of $91,000. Geno quickly lost an impressive 23 pounds as a result.

And Geno is just as enamored with his new look as Mama June is with hers. He told The Sun, “I was tipping the scales at over 300lbs and the lumps I had on my neck and head for years. Having those removed, the gastric sleeve done and my new teeth feels great.”

In the same interview, Mama June expressed hope that her and Geno’s physical transformations will spur them on to maintain their sobriety. She said, “We just celebrated seven months clean so having this mini makeover felt like a reward. We hope this is the start of something new and exciting in our lives.”

It certainly appears to have had the desired effect — in the short term, anyway. In October 2020 Mama June was asked to give a talk at a rehab facility where she proudly declared that she hadn’t fallen off the wagon.“The old June is back! I’m feeling good. Being back to my old self,” she said. “I am definitely an addict. Nobody can tell what six months looks like. You can only take it a day at a time.”

A few weeks later Mama June revealed that she’d be returning to reality TV in the near future. When asked on Instagram whether her show Family Tragedy would return to our screens, the star replied, “Yes, the show is coming back. Production did start last week, but we’re not coming back until 2021.”

And then in November, an unrecognizable Mama June took to Instagram Stories to share an inspiring quote with her followers, It read, “New month, new beginning, new start, new mindset. New focus, new intentions, new results.” She went on to add, “So true, this is for every day also nine months sober.”

Later that month Mama June told In Touch Weekly exactly why she was inspired to go under the knife again. She said, “When you go to rehab and you’re in your addiction, you don’t care about what you look like or whatever. After my addiction, it was like a wake-up call kind of thing.” The star then revealed how glad she was to get one particular procedure done for the first time.

Mama June explained, “I broke my front tooth because I love chewing on ice, like real ice cubes. And that’s what broke my tooth off to begin with, and then my addiction, I didn’t give two s***s about what I looked like. When I actually was at rehab, I kinda woke up and was like, ‘Oh my God, you need to get this fixed because it’s not a good look on me’ if that makes sense.”

Several months on from her surgeries, Mama June is still feeling “really good” about her transformation and is now more confident taking to social media again. She told In Touch, “I can be okay with doing Cameos for fans. I can be okay doing the things that I was doing before.”

And the good news continued that same month when Mama June and boyfriend Geno moved into a new pad. The pair happily posed for pictures in their new home that were uploaded to Instagram. They were joined in one of the snaps by Mitch White, the realtor who helped to find the condominium property in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Mama June and Geno’s home comes with quite the view, too. Yes, the ground-floor, two-bedroom home overlooks a picturesque golf course. It also boasts a spacious lounge complete with state of the art entertainment system and black-countered, wide-mirrored bathroom. And the couple’s beaming faces suggest they are more than delighted with their new abode — and their new looks.
